Fungi Info

The kingdom Fungi is distinct from plants and animals. About 100 000 species have been described to date worldwide, but it has been suggested that there may be more than 5 million. Their classification is in a state of flux, therefore, I have not gone below phylum level for the time being. Slime moulds, formerly classified as belonging to the kingdom Fungi have now been assigned to kingdom Protista but are included here for convenience. Species information is taken from the National Biodiversity Network Gateway.

Fungi are a bit of a specialised field and while I have dabbled with their identification, I usually refer any finds to North Somerset & Bristol Fungus Group.
