Moth Info

I decided to split the Order Lepidoptera list into Butterflies, Micro- and Macro-moths as more species are being added to the respective lists. The difference between moths and butterflies is not clear and taxonomists disagree how to differentiate them. Some cite the fact that moths link their wings, utilising a structure called the frenulum arising from the hindwing that links with barbs on the forewing, and because the shape of the antennae are different.

Moths are further divided into macro- and micro-moths dependent on which family they belong to rather than their size. The result is that some micro-moths are larger than some macro-moths.

In 2013 Bristol & District Moth Group held their meeting at Blagdon Lake. Results are here.
