The first of the flowering orchids at Blagdon Lake, with my earliest record on the 6th April 2002, although it is more usual to see it towards the end of April into early May, just before the first flower spikes of Green-winged Orchid come up. Interestingly, White gives the flowering period as May and June in the early twentieth century. It is a fairly widespread species at the dam end of the lake, but not shown as being present there in the 2000 Bristol Flora. I found a white-flowered spike of this species on 13th May 2007 in the barn owl box field on the North Shore.
